Sikkim, a state located in the Himalayan mountains, is bordered by Nepal to the west, China’s Tibet Autonomous Region to the north east, along with Bhutan to the east. The state of West Bengal lies to the south. Sikkim has 11 official languages. The state of Sikkim is characterized by mountainous terrain. Almost the entire state is hilly, with an elevation ranging from 280 metres (920 ft) to 8,586 metres (28,169 ft). The state has five seasons: winter, summer, spring, autumn, and a monsoon season between June and September. Sikkim is one of the few states in India to receive regular snowfall.
Sikkim is well-known for Orchids and Butterflies. Lovely lakes like Chhangu and Gurudogmar are worth visiting. Lachen, Lachung and Yumthang are a few other interesting destinations.
Locations covered: Gangtok – Chhangu – Yumthang – Himalayan Forests – Gompas
Note: While all the above mentioned locations are covered during the trip, weather conditions and prevailing circumstances may always influence the order of the itineraries generally planned in advance. With over 25 years of Wild Holidays operating in this remote region, and with our trips remaining as organic and responsive to the vagaries of nature as possible, our itineraries remain flexible and adaptive.
Remark: This region has harsh climatic conditions, with temperatures often going below 0ºC. The programme requires patience, endurance and ability to cope with changes in fluctuating environments.
