Kinnaur-Spiti Safari – 13 days

The Spiti Valley is a desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains in the north-eastern part of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. The valley is likewise cut off from the north up to eight months of the year by heavy snowfalls and thick icing conditions.  The “tribal belt” consisting of the districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti is predominantly Buddhist and the language spoken is part of the Himalayan belt Tibeto-Burman.

The visitors often remain amazed at the grandeur of the landscape, frequently dominated by snow-capped peaks. Nature lovers may be able to discover wildlife in higher terrain although with lot of difficulty. Kinnaur is the greener region sheltering Sangla and Baspa river valleys, while Spiti river flows through Ladakh-like desert mountain landscapes. Sangla village, Ki Gompa, Kibber hamlet, Tabo and Dankar monastaries and Kaza (a village-like) town are worth exploring.
